Simpsonizing Process

After seeing my drawings, you may want to create your own Springfield characters. Or maybe you just want to know how I make mine. In any case, here are step by step instructions on how to turn your favorite movie character, family member, or celebrity into a resident of Springfield.

1) Sketch out a draft of what you want your character to look like with pencil. This will take lots of fine tuning and outside opinions. You may want to clean it up when your done because it will make later steps much easier.

2) Scan the pencil sketch onto the computer. Open that image up in Microsoft Paint, or any other program with similar features. You will want to use the tools as necessary to put a digital line where all of the pencil marking are.

3) Transfer the picture to another program, I use Microsoft Image Suite Editor. Use the wand tool to get rid of most of the pencil marks. Many programs have this tool. Get rid of as much as you can, it doesn't need to be perfect.

4) Now fill in the picture with color with a fill tool. This doesn't work in Paint because it's too picky and everything needs to be perfect for the whole thing to fill. Change the colors until it looks right.
